BREAKING: Rand Paul’s top priority if he wins re-election this year

Charles Booker

We can’t afford six more years of Rand Paul.

This is Rand Paul’s top priority if he wins re-election this year:

I wish this man cared as much about Kentuckians as he does about his obsession with Dr. Fauci.

While Rand is plotting his next tantrum to get on Fox News, the people of the state he represents – my family – are suffering. Not because of Dr. Fauci, but because of Rand Paul.

We are at the bottom of nearly every quality of life index. Our schools are underfunded, hundreds of thousands of people haven’t had clean drinking water in decadesand 1 in four people in Appalachia are living in poverty.

I can promise you, playing political games isn’t going to be on the top of my mind if I get elected to the Senate. The people of Kentucky are – and have always been – my top priority.

From ensuring that folks can afford their prescription drugs to creating economic opportunities in communities that have been left behind. These are the things that people care about. And that’s exactly what I’m going to do when I get to the United States Senate.

We’re working to build a campaign that represents ALL of us, from the hood to the holler. Will you chip in $10 or anything you can right now to support our movement to replace Rand Paul?

Rand Paul led a dangerous push to spread COVID misinformation to make a profit off Big Pharma. He’s voted down countless bills that would support workers and families who have been hurt the most in this pandemic. And now instead of focusing on ways to help Kentucky — he’s planning his next political show.

Enough is enough. I’m running to replace Rand Paul because the cost of inaction is too high.

I’ve lived in poverty. I’ve been unhoused. I’ve lost family members to gun violence. I am still paying off my student loans. And I know that when our politicians ignore these struggles, our pain only continues.

Together, we have the power to change the future of Kentucky. But this kind of deep organizing work requires significant resources and funding. Please chip in $10 or anything you can today so that we can sustain this work to replace Rand Paul.

Together,

Charles

Gas, hotels, bus rentals, posters

Charles Booker

Hi, it’s Bianca, I’m Charles Booker’s Campaign Manager.

Next week, we’re kicking off a roadtrip across Kentucky — from the hood to the holler — to meet voters where they’re at and spread our message for meaningful, people-first change.

But before we hit the road, it’s important we raise at least $15,000 to fund expenses like gas, equipment and rally signs.

Will you chip in $10 or anything you can to our Kentucky Roadtrip Fund? We’re relying on donations from emails like this so we can travel across Kentucky and grow our movement to replace Rand Paul.

Our success in November hinges on us uniting a widespread coalition of voters, from the hood to the holler. Traveling across the Commonwealth, visiting town after town, is the best way we can do that.

Long story short: If we work together this election, we have the power to send a real working class advocate to the Senate who will fight for solutions our families urgently need.

But to be blunt, roadtrips like the one we’re starting next week require a lot of resources. That’s why we’re setting a goal to raise $15,000 before we get in the car. Even giving $5 makes a huge difference as we prepare for our road trip.

Let’s do this,

Bianca
Campaign Manager

They’re trying to erase history

Charles Booker

They’re trying to erase history.

This Black History Month, we’re seeing a disturbing trend across the country. Increasing numbers of schools and universities are banning books that teach the history of the civil rights movement, Jim Crow, and slavery. Since last year, 14 states have applied these book bans statewide. 17 more states are considering similar book bans this year.

It’s further proof of an alarming trend in our country — led by politicians like Rand Paul — to use racist dog whistles to stoke fear and division.

It’s why Rand Paul spread the lie that the 2020 election was stolen after a record number of black Georgians voted. It’s why Rand Paul single-handedly blocked the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act, which would have finally made lynching a federal crime. It’s why the Senate still can’t pass the John Lewis Voting Rights bill.

Let’s be clear, these events are all connected, and they all have the same end goal: to maintain white supremacy.

But we know the truth. We know that our nation is built by and stronger because of, the contributions of Black Americans. We also know that we as a nation cannot heal from our history if we do not learn from it.

If you agree, will you chip in $10 or anything you can right now to support our people-powered movement?

Together,

Team Booker

ICYMI: Our brand-new yard signs →

Charles Booker

Have you seen our new Charles Booker for Senate yard signs yet? ⬇️

Charles Booker yard sign

If we want to make sure that every home in Kentucky has one of these signs, we have to make it happen. We’re so excited to fill up ALL the yards, gardens, fields, and windows in Kentucky with our sign, and remind people that better leadership is possible in our Commonwealth — but we can’t do it without your help.

Please chip in $16 — the price of producing one yard sign — to our campaign today and help us reach our $35,000 end-of-month goal. Together, we can blanket Kentucky with Charles Booker yard signs and show the strength of our grassroots movement to replace Rand Paul.

Our movement is only possible with the help of every Kentuckian uniting for a brighter future, from the hood to the holler.

We’re fighting to make sure every single voter in Kentucky knows that Charles is the candidate that will transform Kentucky’s future. That means doing outreach in all forms: online, offline, yard signs, and more.

We have big plans for voter outreach this year — yard signs are one of them — but we can’t execute on them without your help. Please chip in $16 or more and help us invest in our voter outreach efforts today.

Thank you,

Team Booker

He’s a hypocrite and we deserve better

Charles Booker

Last week, I wrote an op-ed about the devastation I saw in western Kentucky, and why we deserve leaders who will show up for us in moments of crisis with love and compassion.

I’m sharing it below in case you haven’t read it yet so you understand why the stakes are so high this election:

I hope that after you’re done reading, you’ll chip in $10 or anything you can to help raise the resources our campaign critically needs to transform the way we do politics.

Dec. 21, 2021, 2:31 AM MST
By Charles Booker, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate for the state Kentucky

When I say the people of Kentucky are my family, that sometimes draws a confused look.

I am a young Black man from the hood in a state that is nearly 90 percent white, vastly rural, and that has been criticized in the media for years as being backward and operating against its own self-interests.

We are one of the poorest states in the nation, and if I had a dollar for every story written blaming Kentuckians for the choices of our politicians, I would be a rich man. What these writers so often don’t know or realize is that our leaders so often fail to show up for us — even in times of crisis. This is one of the many reasons why I’m running for U.S. Senate against Rand Paul.

What I love most about this commonwealth is our grit, our resilience, our ability to come together during times of tragedy — linking arms and doing what needs to be done, with no question about politics or partisanship as we lean on the humanity that truly unites us all. We’ve seen this in real time over the past several days since historic tornadoes ripped through our state, leveling towns and taking more than 70 of our loved ones.

In times of crisis, our leaders must be present. They must provide compassion and hope, leading with integrity and open arms. Gov. Andy Beshear and President Joe Biden have both exemplified that this week — but Paul, whose own hometown was ravaged by tornadoes, has done the bare minimum.

While many Kentuckians mourn their loved ones and start to try to put their lives back together, Paul has had to defend his record of trying to block disaster relief. His votes against providing relief for Hurricane Sandy in 2012, Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria in 2017, and even voting against aid for first-responders who answered the call on 9/11 shows that he cares more about ideology than saving peoples’ lives and helping rebuild following devastation.

Indeed, throughout his entire time in office, Paul has consistently voted against disaster relief, even opposing urgently needed aid for Kentucky itself in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, he’s sought tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy and handouts to big corporations — who of course fund his campaign. At last, he sharply pivoted to request aid following the devastation of the recent tornadoes, but it merely exposes his hypocrisy.

This is why I’m challenging Paul and fighting to give my state and the people in it a voice at the federal level that we have long needed. We deserve leadership that cares about our lives, that shows up for us, that leads by example amid a crisis.

As soon as we learned about the developing storm, our campaign made plans to provide support in case the worst happened. When our fears were realized, I made the call to temporarily halt political activities and focus our entire campaign on relief efforts.

We have been coordinating with organizations across Kentucky to provide food, water, clothing, and other essential items, and shifted all of our campaign fundraising to grassroots organizations and partners on the ground to quickly help Kentuckians. We reached out to our volunteer network of over 10,000 Kentuckians to coordinate actions, and updated our website to further that effort.

We have also been engaging our national audience and supporters to help with relief efforts and donations. For the remainder of my campaign, we will continue to lead volunteer actions and provide fundraising support for the people fighting to rebuild.
This is what being a Kentuckian is really about. Pulling together in the face of tragedy no matter what and helping one another get back on our feet. For so long, we have been the only ones out here helping each other — left behind by the likes of Paul — and we deserve better.

My campaign is a testament to the forgotten people, communities like my own that have been ignored and abandoned for too long. Many of us were struggling to survive before this storm. Kentucky needs a new deal after decades of failed leadership from Paul and Sen. Mitch McConnell — a Kentucky New Deal that will boldly transform our state well into the future.

No matter your party, it is essential we have someone in office who will actually work for all of us, not mock, disrespect and disappoint us like Paul continues to do. I am committed to that work, and my team is already doing it. We’re not waiting for our politicians to “save” us when so often they don’t even see us.

Stand with Kentucky

As you know, this weekend Kentuckians suffered tremendous loss of life, homes, even entire communities in an unprecedented tornado event.

As a Kentuckian, I laid in bed on Friday night glued to my phone seaching for updates from friends in Paducah, Mayfield, Benton, Bowling Green, and many other communities while wondering if my family and I would need to take shelter too. And, when we woke up in the morning, looking for ways to help. Should we donate items, money, give blood, volunteer? What was the most needed?

In this time of overwhelming need, Kentuckians - from the Hood to the Holler - stepped up to answer that call and support our neighbors.

Today, we turn to you.

Please consider finding a way that you can lend support to Kentuckians who are hurting the most.

We have listed a few ways below and are also updating a thread of resources on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

1) Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has set up a Relief Fund that will be the largest coordinated effort of support. You can make a tax-deductible donation here

2) Hood to the Holler Founder Charles Booker is also coordinating a relief effort and has several ways to help, including making wellness calls to residents. You can sign up to help here.

Hood to the Holler is already fighting impacts of the Climate Crisis in Kentucky and will not give up that effort, but today, we stretch out our hand to our neighbors who are suffering.

Thank you for standing with Kentucky,

Elizabeth Sawyer

Kentucky New Deal. A new deal for all of us.

Charles Booker

I have big news to share with you today.

Today, I’m proud to launch the Kentucky New Deal.

I’m running for U.S. Senate because I love Kentucky. I love the people of our Commonwealth. And I believe that after decades of bad leadership, poverty, and struggle, enough is enough.

I’m gonna share more about why we’re launching the Kentucky New Deal and the history behind it — but before I do, can I ask you a favor?

My team and I want to be able to travel all across our Commonwealth to talk about the Kentucky New Deal with Kentuckians — and meet them where they’re at, from the hood to the holler. I’d be honored, if you can chip in $10 or anything you can afford so we can fund our travels and make these meetings a reality. Can you chip in?

Years ago, in Kentucky, we were promised a New Deal. We were promised a future without poverty, a future where every Kentuckian would have pathways to prosperity and plenty.

We worked the mines to power our cities. We forged the steel to build our bridges. We harvested the crops that fed our children. We fell the trees that built our homes.

The deal was that for our service and our sacrifice, we would be fairly treated. We would be able to live full and gainful lives, we could feed our families, and we’d have a fair path to prosperity.

But over the years, the promises of the New Deal have been gutted by politicians like Rand Paul. And what we have left now is a bad deal — a deal that exploits and harms Kentuckians who are already struggling, unable to get ahead.

A deal where corrupt politicians and corporations get richer, but the rest of us were left behind and forgotten. While Kentuckians suffer, they profited off their stocks, blocked pandemic relief, chased conspiracies, weaponized hate, and division. All for their own gain.

Kentucky deserves a new deal, on our terms — a bold new vision led by us and for us about the things that matter most to us. We can end the cycle, end the hate and division, end poverty as we know it with a new deal by us, for us.

The Kentucky New Deal will be the biggest investment in the history of our Commonwealth. But this isn’t about a handout. It’s about justice and claiming what is ours — claiming what we deserve.

The Kentucky New Deal will center the people of Kentucky to build lasting infrastructure, break down barriers to democracy, end generational poverty, build new statewide coalitions, and so much more.

This Deal will finally address the deep, lasting challenges that have crippled our Commonwealth, and meet people where they’re at.

The Kentucky New Deal is a way for us to show the nation that enough is enough, and everyday people have had it with the lies, corruption, and suffering.

I’m fired up and ready to share this vision with Kentuckians everywhere, from the hood to the holler. But I need your support to do this. If — and only if — you are able, please chip in $10 to our campaign.

More soon,

Charles Booker

7 things about me

Charles Booker

We’re building a historic, grassroots campaign to replace Rand Paul, and it’s going to take every single one of us to win.

Ever since we announced that we’re running, many of you have joined this movement. And with so many new faces around, I wanted to send an email sharing who I am, why I’m running for Senate, and how we’re doing things differently.

After you’re done reading, I hope you'll chip in $7 or anything you can to help us reach our critical end-of-month fundraising goal. There’s only 7 days left before our deadline and every little bit counts for a grassroots funded campaign like ours.

Here are 7 things you should know:

1. I was born and raised in Louisville’s West End, one of the poorest ZIP codes in Kentucky. Both of my parents had to drop out of high school to help take care of my brothers and sisters. We sometimes had to go without heat in the winter or air conditioning in the summer. My mom often went without eating so that I could. These experiences inspired me to work in public service and fight for the change our communities urgently need.

2. I got involved in public service because I believed Kentuckians deserved better and that things could get better. I became the youngest Black legislator in Kentucky in 90 years. And all around me, I started seeing evidence that change is possible. I saw my grandparents open up their home to foster care. I saw my neighbors fighting back on the picket line. I saw my uncle become an advocate after my cousin’s murder.

3. Last year, I decided to take my fight for a better Kentucky to Mitch McConnell. We built a ground-breaking movement. Our neighbors from the hood to the holler rose up and together we showed the world that Kentucky is a battleground state.

4. I saw how hungry Kentuckians were for bold change in that election so shortly afterwards I founded Hood to the Holler — an organization focused on community engagement and breaking down the barriers that have prevented so many Kentuckians from participating in our election.

5. I’m a proud girl dad of three daughters. I want a future for them where the color of her skin doesn’t determine their chances of experiencing police violence. A future where they can breathe clean air, get a college education without going into crippling debt, and not know what it’s like to go to bed hungry. It’s a future we all want for our children.

6. I’m proud to support Medicare for All so we can finally transform our broken health care system. I nearly died three years ago because I couldn’t afford my insulin. At that time, I didn’t have enough money to take care of my girls, make sure they had food to eat, afford my medication, and make it to the next pay day. I don’t want anyone to ever have to feel that pain.

7. Finally, I’m running for Senate because the people of Kentucky are my family. My Grandad taught me that if someone disrespects one of us, they have disrespected all of us. I am running for Senate because I am sick and tired of seeing the lives of Kentuckians traded away for profit. We’ve been disrespected long enough.

Kentucky, the challenges we face are relentless, but I know the solution. It’s us.

Together, we can build a better, brighter future for everyone in our Commonwealth. The first step is replacing Rand Paul.

But it’s going to take hard work from all of us to defeat his corporate war chest and bring in bold new leadership to Kentucky.

If you’re ready to rise up in this fight, will you donate right now to our campaign? We rely on folks like you, reading and chipping into emails like this, to power our grassroots movement.

Let’s do this,

Charles

Seriously?

Today’s Action: Stop the Line 3 oil sands pipeline!

It should have been enough that recent Line 3 oil sands pipeline permits were granted by lackeys in the Trump administration that believe climate change is a hoax, or that doing so broke treaties made with First Nations, or that a code red report on climate change should have the entire planet working to end our reliance on fossil fuels, but, in defiance of all good reason, construction continues on the dangerous Line 3 pipeline.

Just last Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources ordered Enbridge Energy, the pipeline’s owner, to pay $3.3 million for already damaging a sensitive aquifer during construction for Line 3 after the company dug 8 feet deeper than they told the state they would. It’s clear that Enbridge does not feel bound to any sort of environmental regulations, and President Biden has an obligation to end construction on Line 3 immediately,

The Line 3 pipeline is more than just a mistake — it’s a gamble with some of our most sensitive ecosystems and marginalized communities. Write President Biden and tell him to make good on his climate campaign promises and stop construction on Line 3 now! Send him this petition with more than 50,000 signatures calling for the Line 3 permit to be revoked!

While President Biden could revoke the federal permits issued by the Trump administration that the pipeline depends on, he has yet to do so. We need our elected leaders to aggressively tackle climate change. The past several months alone of unprecedented drought, flooding, heatwaves, and devastating storms illustrate the need for immediate, meaningful action.

If completed, Line 3 would be one of the largest crude oil pipelines in the world. Which means that 915,000 barrels of tar sands crude, some of the Earth’s dirtiest oil, would traverse delicate wetlands, rice beds, and lakes daily, in violation of First Nations treaties and at great peril to our environment.

Write President Biden and tell him not to choose oil over our planet and our First Nation communities. Demand he revoke federal construction permits for Line 3 now!

PS — Please don't forget to sign the petition censuring McConnell for voting to acquit Trump and then admitting he was guilty, and be sure to follow OD Action on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

This kind of behavior has no place in the U.S. Senate

Charles Booker

Horse medicine.

That’s what Rand Paul is recommending us to take to cure COVID.

If it wasn’t clear before, it is now: Rand Paul is a danger to democracy and our country, and we need to end this era of failed leadership in Kentucky.

Please chip in whatever you can today to make sure we can send Charles to the U.S. Senate and hold Rand Paul accountable for his lies at the ballot box. (Our average donation this month is $20.73.)

Right now, Kentucky is experiencing a record-breaking wave of new COVID cases. If you search “Kentucky” + “COVID”, here are some of the headlines that pop up:

Now, you’re probably wondering what our leaders are doing about this. If you search “Rand Paul” + “COVID”, here are some of the headlines that pop up:

It’s shameful. Why is a U.S. Senator more focused on spreading dangerous lies around COVID and covering up his own tracks rather than helping his constituents?

This kind of behavior has no place in the U.S. Senate. Rand Paul has made it clear that he’s more interested in making a profit and gaining clout than helping his constituents who are losing their lives and livelihoods from this pandemic.

What’s worse is that this isn’t anything new. For too long — for now ten years — Rand Paul has used his power in the U.S. Senate only to benefit himself while Kentuckians suffer at his expense. But we know that we deserve better — and it’s time to come together and fight for the future we deserve.

Please chip in $10 or anything you can to help us build and sustain the historic grassroots movement we need to turn Kentucky blue. We have the momentum and energy to defeat Rand Paul, but it’s going to take hard work from all of us to send Charles to the U.S. Senate.

Together,

Team Booker

How we will reach folks from the Hood to the Holler

Charles Booker

120 counties in 120 days. That’s the ambitious goal we’ve set to reach voters across Kentucky from Paducah to Pikeville — before we enter our historic election year in 2022.

Hi y’all — I’m Murray Huber, the Distributed Organizing Manager for the Booker Campaign. When it comes to a grassroots campaign like ours, early investments and preparation are key. What we are able to invest from today through the rest of 2021 will have a huge impact on our success.

So, the team took a look at the numbers yesterday and made a grassroots organizing plan for the rest of the year.

Here are a few of the items we need to reach folks in all 120 counties:

  • Virtual Phone Banking Events: It costs our campaign $0.05 to call one Kentucky voter. If we raised just $5,000, that would allow us to reach 100,000 Kentuckians. That’s already 10% of the population of folks living in Kentucky Appalachia.
  • Supplies to send 50 voter registration teams out across Kentucky: $564 for clipboards + $150 for pens + $50 for print materials = $764
  • Gas for our volunteers: It costs on average $47.59 to drive the 395 miles from the furthest point of Kentucky to the other. If we raise $4,759.03, our volunteers could cover the entire Commonwealth 100 times.

This is why I need to ask if you can support us today. Can we count on you to please chip in $12 (or any other amount you can afford) to our campaign? If we want to carry out our full outreach plan to all 120 counties by the end of the year, we need to raise $12,000 by the end of tomorrow.

Let me reiterate: We’re hoping to reach out to all 120 counties in Kentucky over the next 120 days. Not just counties in and around our Commonwealth’s larger cities like Louisville, but everywhere. From the hood to the holler.

Kentuckians have been suffering for decades at the hands of leaders like Rand Paul. While our state has been falling behind in life expectancy, health, and quality in education — our politicians have just been getting richer. I’ll be honest, that’s why so many Kentuckians don’t trust our politicians.

We believe that change is possible. But it starts by building relationships with Kentuckians who’ve been left behind — and doing it early.

Building trust takes time, and to do it right we need the resources to start NOW. According to our calculations, we’ll need to raise at least $12,000 over the next 24 hours to fully jump-start our efforts here.

It’s time to come together and fight for the future we deserve. Please chip in $12 or whatever you can afford for our campaign and help us reach our $12,000 goal to help us start our outreach.

Together,

Murray Huber

This past month has made it urgently clear how dangerous Rand Paul is.

Charles Booker

If you are as sick and tired of Rand Paul as I am — I hope you can take two minutes to read this email and then donate $10 to help us hit our urgent fundraising goal tonight.

This past month has made it urgently clear how dangerous Rand Paul is.

From promoting horse deworming medication1 as a COVID-19 treatment, to failing to disclose his own financial stake2 in keeping the pandemic raging, we’ve seen just how low he’ll go to keep his con going.

Kentucky is ready for change and I know that together, we have the power to finally elect someone who will fight for us. That’s my biggest promise in this campaign, because I know exactly what it feels like to be abandoned by our politicians.

I know what it’s like to choose between paying rent and filling a prescription.

I know what it’s like to lose loved ones to gun violence while our politicians ignore the issue.

And I know I’m not the only one who’s gone through these challenges — Kentuckians have been suffering for decades at the hands of leaders like Rand Paul.

It’s time to come together and fight for the future we deserve. If you’re with me, please use this personal link to chip in $10 or anything you can before our end-of-month deadline tonight so that our campaign has the resources we need to compete against Rand and grow our movement:

I know change is possible here in Kentucky.

They want us to think Kentucky is a deep-red state. But we know better.

When I ran for office last year, we witnessed an unprecedented grassroots movement rise up all across Kentucky. Together, we showed the world that Kentuckians are hungry to be heard and have been waiting for a candidate who’s ready to fight for them.

If we keep growing this momentum, we can defeat Rand Paul. But there’s no doubt it’s going to be an uphill battle: 75% of his donations come from big business and corporate donors. We’re not doing things that way — we’re relying on small dollar donations to power our work. So when we have a big fundraising deadline, we can’t just call up a donor on Wall Street for a big check. We need folks like you.

So whether you can give $100, $20.84 (our average donation!), or even just $1 — I hope you’ll chip in whatever you can before our deadline tonight and help us give Rand a run for his money.

Let’s do this,

Charles

Preventable pandemic...

Good fight, bad fight...

Hope...

Today’s Action: Allow low-risk federal prisoners to remain on home detention!

Since the beginning of high COVID-19 transmission in America over a year ago, thousands of Federal prisoners have returned home to serve their sentences on home detention. Due to the contagion levels of prisons in tandem with prison overcrowding, it made sense for the most vulnerable of prisoners to serve time elsewhere. These prisoners have reconnected with their families, have jobs, and are held to strict conduct… but now, they might have to return back to federal prison.

The Biden Administration broke silence on the issue to announce that the federal prisoners who have been reintegrating into society on home detention would be forced to return back to prison one month after the end of the declared state of emergency. While it isn’t known when this could end, discussions on prison overcrowding needs to begin now.

Write President Biden and tell him that with the uncertainty of new variants, the safe thing to do is to keep reintegrated prisoners on home detention for the rest of their sentence!

Pre-pandemic, nine state prisons and the Federal Bureau of Prisons were operating at 100% capacity or more. When you consider the pandemic, social distancing was not an option.

The pandemic aside, our prisons are way too full. Overcrowding in prisons raises the rates of suicides, violence, poor healthcare, less visitations, less educational and rehabilitation opportunities… It’s incredibly inhumane, and the pandemic makes it all the more deadly. Decarceration has been highly suggested by health officials in order to slow the spread.

We need healthy and rehabilitative prisons that treat prisoners like people, not ones that pack in as many prisoners as possible to benefit from exploitative practices such as prison labor.

Write President Biden and demand that reintegrated prisoners on home detention for the remainder of their sentences in order to combat prison overcrowding!

PS — Please don't forget to sign the petition Demand Congress pass an eviction moratorium that protects EVERY American!, and be sure to follow OD Action on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
