Just announced: I have a GOP challenger

I’ll keep this short.

This morning, a far-right Trump Republican announced their candidacy against me for California’s 30th Congressional District. But here’s the thing, despite her many misleading statements and smears... I’ll bet you she’ll receive support from the Republican Party.

Why? Because the Republican Party is no longer one of ideas, or even ideology. And it certainly has no devotion to anything resembling the truth. In fact, under Trump it is little more than a party of lies and vitriol, and only cares about pleasing their disgraced leader in Mar-a-Lago.

Every day I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent you in Congress. And I’ll do everything I can to defeat this challenger and any others who enter the race in the coming months.

Knowing the target on my back, with Trump and McCarthy attacking me every week, GOP donors will pour millions of dollars into the race against me, just as they did last cycle. But I refuse to back down. 

I don’t say this lightly, but our democracy hinges on the results of the election this November as much as it will in November of 2024. Thank you for all you do. And thank you for being part of our fast response team. — Adam

How Adam endures the GOP’s attacks

 

Adam is already facing intense attacks during the first month of an election year. This year has yet to fully ramp up, so this is only a sign of what's to come as we near the midterms.

Kevin McCarthy, who will become the Republican Party’s Speaker of the House if they take back Congress, threatened in an exclusive interview with the far-right publication Breitbart to remove Adam from his committee assignments if the GOP wins the midterms. Then the very next week, McCarthy went and raised $9.5 million at a Trump Hotel Washington fundraiser with over 50 corporate PACs and the NRCC. The minimum donation? $100,000. So much for corporations refusing to support those who tried to overturn the election.

Additionally, Sean Hannity and other Fox News hosts are attacking Adam virtually every day on their cable “news” shows, beaming into the homes of millions of their viewers, and for what? Standing up to Donald Trump and calling out the GOP’s attacks on our democracy.

And just last week, McCarthy tried to blame Adam for Russia amassing troops on the border of Ukraine for a potential attack. He has also blamed Adam for the pandemic. Seriously. It’s just truly bizarre stuff.

It seems the more Adam condemns the egregious actions of the GOP and their cult leader, Donald Trump, the more the attacks and insults are intensifying against him.

Adam’s more committed than ever to stand up to McCarthy, Donald Trump, and their craven enablers in Congress even if it means enduring countless attacks. The firestorm of threats and insults definitely takes a toll, but he believes it’s a small price to pay if it means upholding justice and our democracy.

One of the ways Adam stays grounded is by focusing on the incredible support of this grassroots team. Knowing that there are millions of Americans who share his values and believe our country deserves better strengthens Adam’s resolve and fuels his work.
