We're in full campaign mode

There's a little more than a month left until the primary. Texans only have a few more days to register to vote before the election and less than a month left to request mail-in ballots.

That's why we're in full campaign mode.

Our dedicated block walkers are knocking on thousands of doors, mobilizing voters, and setting the record straight about what's at stake in this election.

Get out the vote efforts like these make a big difference — especially in the face of the GOP's voter suppression legislation, and Texas' blatantly gerrymandered new district maps.

But this kind of grassroots campaigning requires resources. For every $15 we raise, we can knock on 20 doors in El Paso and remind people to vote. Will you chip in to help power our fieldwork?

Thank you.

— Veronica Escobar Field Team

P.S. — Do you have everything you need to vote in the Texas primary election on March 1st?

Check your registration here, or print out a new voter registration. Registration forms must be postmarked by Jan. 31st.

If you plan to vote by mail, you must submit a paper application to your county's early voting clerk no later than Feb. 18th. The mail-in ballot request form can be found here.

We're taking TX voter suppression to court.

Texas Republicans are trying to steal elections in plain sight. Their new district maps disenfranchise thousands of Texans, especially people of color.

They're racist and undemocratic, and we think they're illegal. That's why we're suing the state of Texas for fair maps. Chip in to support our fight for voting rights in Texas »

Thank you.

Subject: We're suing the state of Texas

Republican voter suppression is nothing new in Texas and that means our fight to protect voters continues.

This year, Greg Abbott and the Republican state legislature passed one of the most restrictive voter suppression bills in the nation, doing everything in their power to disenfranchise Texans.

Now, Gov. Abbott has signed into law stunning new district maps. Republicans are planning to steal elections in plain sight.

Folks, Texas has violated the Voting Rights Act in every redistricting cycle since the law was passed, and this year looks like no exception.

These districts are so dramatically undemocratic and lopsided that Texas Republicans stand to gain at least 10 safe seats in the House for the next decade. Those are crucial votes when Democrats only hold a 3-vote margin in the House today.

This comes as Texas becomes more diverse. Almost all of our population growth over the last decade was driven by people of color moving into our cities, while over 100 rural counties lost significant amounts of their population. But Republicans don't care. They didn't draw a single new majority-minority district.

By packing Democratic voters into a few gerrymandered districts and slicing up other communities to dilute their voting power, the Texas GOP is trying to cement its grip on power for the next decade or more.

That's not democracy. We're not going to sit around and let it slide. We're suing the state of Texas for fair maps.

Redistricting lawsuits are notoriously long and difficult. Winning this fight will take resources, but we refuse to allow millions of Texans to be disenfranchised.

Will you chip in to support our lawsuit against this racist redistricting power grab?

Thank you.

Humbly Asking

It'll be 2022 before we know it.

We're just 25 days away from the start of a critical election year. Republicans are trying to take over both houses of Congress, and Texas is going to be the most important battleground in the nation.

I won't sugarcoat it: we're starting from a disadvantage. Republicans in our state have done everything in their power to disenfranchise Texans.

They've passed one of the strictest voter suppression laws in the nation. They've tried to rig elections across the state by drawing severely gerrymandered new districts.

But I know we can win.

The policies and actions of Texas Republicans are incredibly unpopular. That's why they're scared to let voters have a say at the ballot box.

A true grassroots movement, fighting for policies that actually help working people, can turn the tide in Texas. We can win. Even against dirty tactics like gerrymandering and voter suppression.

Our team is planning to hit the ground running in 2022. We're going to register and mobilize thousands of new voters, and elect Democrats up and down the ballot.

But this work takes resources. Right now we're on track to finish the year short of our fundraising goal. That's why I'm humbly asking: will you chip in a few bucks to support our critical organizing work in the new year?

Thank you. It's an honor to be in this fight with you.

10 years ago today, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” became history 🏳️‍🌈

Today, 10 years ago, President Obama relegated “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” to the dustbin of history.

For seventeen years, the official military policy against LGBTQ+ service members was outright discrimination. It prevented thousands of brave Americans from serving in the armed forces, and its message of intolerance echoed throughout our society.

The end of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was a victory for equality, justice, and our national security. But the fight against homophobic and transphobic discrimination continues today.

Trans people in the U.S. still experience disproportionate rates of discrimination, violence and poverty. Many lack health care coverage, or have difficulty finding gender-affirming care.

To make matters worse, Republican state legislatures across the country have passed or proposed a flood of bills targeting trans Americans, and federal law still doesn’t offer explicit civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ Americans.

As a proud cosponsor of the Equality Act, Veronica is leading the fight to change that. If you can, please consider chipping in to support Veronica’s work for LGBTQ+ civil rights.

Thank you, ANTONIO.

Today’s Action: Demand Congress pass legislation protecting abortions in all 50 states!

The Department of Justice has called on Congress to pass federal abortion protections to combat anti-abortion laws taking place, such as Greg Abbott’s heinous "heartbeat ban" which blocks the majority of abortions — at six weeks — before most women even know they’re pregnant.

Support for Roe v. Wade is both strong and bipartisan, with 60-70% of Americans in favor. And more importantly, regardless of polling, no similar issue regarding men’s health is subject to the whims of popular vote. But with a 6-3 right-wing supermajority in the Supreme Court, a woman’s right to choose is in serious jeopardy.

Call (202-224-3121) or write your representatives and demand they pass federal abortion protection laws that enshrine Roe v. Wade into law!

The wave of proposed anti-abortion laws at the state level and recent Supreme Court decisions set a perilous stage for the fight for abortion rights America, and they only embolden anti-abortion groups. It also puts abortion seekers at risk of physical or professional retaliation — while abortion is still ostensibly legal in all 50 states. We need our leaders to move quickly to ensure that the right to choose is protected at the federal level, before we lose decades of progress.

For any person, having a child is a monumental event. Our leaders have a duty to protect the choice to do so.

Call (202-224-3121) or write your representatives and tell them to pass federal protections for abortion access before the Supreme Court further guts Roe v. Wade!
