Tell McDonald’s: Keep Your Promises to Stop Antibiotic Overuse   In 2018, McDonald’s committed to setting antibiotic reduction targets across 85% of its global beef supply chain by the end of 2020. But the company still has not set these promised targets and has indicated it may no longer do it at all, allowing the threat of antibiotic resistance from factory farms to continue unabated.   Please sign our petition calling on McDonald’s to move forward with its commitment to end the overuse of antibiotics by its beef suppliers.   As McDonald’s is the world’s largest producer of beef, its influence on these commitments can push better animal welfare standards, help curb the global health crisis of antibiotic-resistant “superbugs,” and create an opportunity to push the industry towards more sustainable farming solutions.   Superbugs are a growing issue that threatens our public health, food security, and the lives of animals we are working to protect. The overuse of antibiotics in livestock has become standard practice in factory farms, driving higher rates of superbugs. Antibiotics are regularly given to animals who are not sick via their feed and water to hedge against the cruel, stressful, and inhumane conditions on factory farms that increase risk of disease.   Improved animal welfare standards would contribute to the reduction of antibiotic usage and, in turn, the growing resistance threat.   Please add your signature to this petition to urge McDonald’s to keep its promise to reduce the use of medically important antibiotics in its supply chain. Thanks to you, we’ve been able to start the year off strong in our fight to end animal suffering and create a better world.     Read on to hear how, with your support, we continue to fight for animal welfare in 2022 and beyond.   Support the Traveling Exotic Animal and Public Safety Protection Act     Wild animals like tigers and elephants continue to be forced to participate in circuses and travelling acts across the US, performing unnatural, dangerous tricks and spending the remainder of their time confined in cages. Not only do these wild animals suffer physically, but they also experience detrimental psychological harm from their inability to participate in behaviors natural to their species.   Wild animals are meant to live in the wild, not provide entertainment for humans. The Traveling Exotic Animal and Public Safety Protection Act, sponsored by Reps Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-03) and David Schweikert (AZ-06) in the House of Representatives and Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) in the Senate, would amend the Animal Welfare Act by banning the use of wild animals in traveling circuses and acts.   You can advocate for these tigers, elephants, and other wild animals by urging your federal legislators to co-sponsor the Traveling Exotic Animal and Public Safety Protection Act.     KFC Trials Plant-Based Chicken On Menus Nationwide   We congratulate and thank you for, over the past two years, joining us in successfully pushing KFC to extend their trial of plant-based chicken nationwide. Today, 21 orcas live in captivity in marine mammal parks nationwide, where they’re denied access to the open ocean, kept in tanks 200,000 times smaller than their natural homes, and forced to perform for human enjoyment.
