There are thirteen dog tags hanging in my office.
Each one belonged to a friend I served with. Thirteen heroes I knew. Thirteen lives cut short in service to our country.
I held them up when I stood before the West Virginia state senate, demanding that we pass my medical cannabis bill. Because I’ve seen what war does to the minds and bodies of those who do make it home, and I would not let their sacrifice be in vain.
Today we honor not just the names I carry with me, but all the ones who didn’t make it home.
Those tags hang by my desk as a reminder. Of who we lost. Of what we fought for. Of what I still owe them. |

And I’ll tell you right now—this is not the country we fought for.
Donald Trump’s reign of terror spits in the face of every veteran buried at Arlington—or in a quiet cemetery back home—who gave their life believing in what America stands for: democracy, dignity, and freedom from tyranny.
This is the same man who called our fallen “suckers” and “losers.”
The same man who wants to round up immigrants into camps, gut the Department of Veterans Affairs, and purge the federal government of anyone who won’t bend the knee.
I didn’t wear the uniform so some draft dodger and petty fail-son of a slum-lord empire could turn this country into a dictatorship. And the brothers and sisters in arms I lost sure as hell didn’t give their lives for this either.
Now we’ve got cowards like Richard Hudson—Trump’s budget enforcer—cheering him on, slashing services for veterans, and helping build the kind of country we used to fight against overseas.
This Memorial Day, I want you to remember our fallen brothers and sisters but I also want your courage.
I want you to stand up for what they stood for.
Because if we let this country fall into fascism on our watch, then we’ve broken the promise we made to every one of them.

Last week, Democrats flipped a state Senate seat in one of the most Trump-friendly districts in New York.
Trump won that area last November by 20 points, and it didn’t even matter.
We’re seeing similar results in GOP strongholds across the country.
We saw it in a special state senate election in Iowa. We saw it in a Pennsylvania race that flipped a seat Republicans have held since 1889! We saw it in the Omaha mayor’s race. And now we’re seeing it in New York.
The tide is turning.
Voters are done with Trump’s circus.
They’re done with MAGA extremists looting the country, lying to their faces, and calling it leadership.
Trump’s chaos isn’t energizing his base anymore—it’s exposing how useless, how cruel, and how incompetent his entire party has become.
And right in the middle of it all is my opponent Richard Hudson.
One of the most pathetic career hacks in Washington.
A man who’s never held a job outside politics, never fought for anything worth a damn, and now leads the NRCC—the cash machine keeping Trump’s army of traitors in office.
And you think Democrats are winning now?
Just wait until these cowards have to go home and defend Trump’s so-called “big beautiful bill”—the one that guts Medicaid, slashes the VA, and shuts down the Department of Education just to keep billionaires happy.
Richard Hudson didn’t just vote for it—he helped push it through. Like the obedient little lapdog he’s always been.
He’s not a leader. He’s not a patriot. He’s a soft-handed parasite who’s never sacrificed anything, but wants to make the rest of us bleed for his donors.
Let me be clear: We’re turning NC-09 into a battleground district. Hudson is vulnerable—and I intend to take him out.
Sappers clear the way, Airborne all the way!
