In honor of Black History Month

 

This week marked the beginning of Black History Month.  This year, I hope you’ll join me in honoring this important month in our country by committing to fight for criminal justice reform. Over the past few years, we’ve followed in the footsteps of many great leaders who fought institutional racism and disparate treatment under the law. Here’s some of what we’ve done: Created new policies to limit charges resulting from racist, pretextual police stops.   Limited the use of gang and status enhancements, which have contributed to racial disparities in the criminal justice system.   Invited all District Attorney Staff to take a racial equity pledge.   Dedicated an Assistant District Attorney to prosecute hate crimes, and conducting trainings with the SFPD on gathering evidence necessary to prosecute.
