Katie Porter Responds After Trump Loyalists Disrupt Town Hall For Families

Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) was hoping her first town hall since the pandemic would offer a forum for her constituents to discuss the economic recovery, but it was soon disrupted by Trump supporters who started a physical confrontation. Rep. Porter tells Lawrence O’Donnell “we need to be civil and listen to each other. And it was incredibly heartbreaking when that happened.”    

Last week, our team was getting ready to submit our Q2 fundraising numbers to the FEC—and we noticed something interesting during our prep process that we wanted to share with you.

Our average donation for Q2 was $26—just shy of $30. Some campaigns might be concerned if they see their average contribution dip below $100, but Antonio, we’re proud of this number.

Katie doesn’t take any donations from corporate PACs, executives at Big Oil companies, Wall Street banks, or lobbyists. Every dollar we raise sends a powerful message that Katie has strong grassroots support, and that she’s not going anywhere.

Our average donation is just further proof that our campaign is largely supported by folks who give what they can, when they can. And, as we get closer and closer to 2022 and the midterm elections, it’ll be increasingly important to keep up our strong, grassroots fundraising.

The National Republican Congressional Committee announced that Katie is a top target to unseat in 2022, and we’re getting organized now to remain competitive against the GOP and powerful Republican Super PACs who are going to direct large sums of money into our district to flip it back red. Will you chip in our average gift—$26—or anything you can to protect Katie’s seat?
