New York Times: Biden withdraws his nomination of David Chipman to lead the A.T.F.

 

 

Yesterday was a tough day of reflection for our gun reform movement.

Our advocates in the White House and Senate failed to put up the fight needed to confirm an experienced gun safety expert as the next ATF Director, a position with immense power to fight rising gun violence and illegal gun trafficking.

It’s not enough to only fight the gun industry. Our allies also need to be pressured to keep their promises.

94% of Guns Down America supporters who took our issues survey agree with a bolder approach that holds President Biden and his administration accountable for progress on reducing gun violence.

The national media has taken notice with USA Today, NPR, Politico, and even the front page of the New York Times covering our calls for the White House to do more.

We need President Biden's leadership to address this crisis – and we need it now. Here’s what that leadership looks like:

Establish an Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

Provide a comprehensive plan to move gun reform legislation and use the presidential bully pulpit to make the case.

Stop defending gun industry liability immunity protections in court.

 

We have the power to demand these actions, and we intend to use it.

The NRA is scared of its own members

 

We told you about how the NRA had to cancel their convention for a second year in a row (it was supposed to happen TODAY), but there’s been an interesting development since we last emailed you we wanted to share with you.

 

Apparently, in canceling their big shindig, the NRA has upset some of their loyal membership who had planned to confront leadership about alleged misuse of tens of millions of dollars of funds on luxurious meals, private jet travel and exotic vacations.

 

If you believe that profiting off of the gun violence epidemic in our country is wrong, give to our Disarm the NRA Fund so we can keep up the work pushing back on their dangerous policies.

 

Despite members staging a rebellion of sorts two years ago, demanding a change in leadership, executives were able to weasel their way out of being held accountable.

 

Even loyal members of the NRA see that their leadership is rotten to the core. It’s time we fight back against their shameful campaign to sell more guns and end the NRA for good!
