Exciting news: Last week Summer was endorsed by SEIU 32BJ, SEIU Local 668, and SEIU Healthcare PA. The SEIU Pennsylvania State Council includes 80,000 workers ready to stand beside Summer in this campaign for Congress.

These endorsements represent the robust labor movement Summer is helping build to reflect the racial, gender, and industry diversity that a 21st Century labor movement demands.

Today’s bridge collapse in Pittsburgh

 

Early this morning, the Forbes Avenue bridge over Frick Park collapsed — injuring 10 people and sending 4 to the hospital. We are so grateful to the first responders who showed up to help frightened and hurt commuters.

Pittsburgh is the city of bridges — we have more bridges than any city in America, and we know that these landmarks are in urgent need of repair to stop preventable disasters like this from happening again.

This is the consequence of failed priorities. Summer is running for Congress because she believes that we should care about and invest in the safety and stability of our communities instead of spending billions on prisons and bombs. Can you contribute $5 or whatever you can so Summer can take this fight to prioritize critical infrastructure investments to Congress?

Today Summer joined President Biden and others to hear remarks about the long-overdue Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This bill is important, and should be celebrated — but it is simply not enough.

Pittsburgh is already experiencing that stress — sinkholes, erosion, more landslides than we’ve ever experienced in a given year, and far more than we have budgeted to address adequately.

Democrats can't just use the same old playbook

 

To be transparent, Pennsylvania's future will depend on this years' elections.

Midterm elections are historically difficult for the president's party, and for Democrats to win this year — especially in crucial gubernatorial and Senate races — we need candidates on the ballot who know how to welcome new folks into the electoral process and build multiracial, multigenerational coalitions.

That's Summer. Summer has a proven track record of running and winning tough races on overwhelmingly popular progressive ideas by connecting authentically with voters, including those frustrated by politics as usual.

Summer's in this race to build the biggest coalition of voters Pennsylvania has ever seen and to finally make progress on the issues important to everyday people. Please, will you join us on this journey and contribute $5, if you can, to our campaign today?

In the last several months, we’ve seen the impact of just a few progressives standing up for working people, and fighting corporate interests head-on. And we’re working to elect 5 new Justice Democrats to join them: Odessa Kelly, Rana Abdelhamid, Jessica Cisneros, Kina Collins, and Summer Lee.

Odessa, Rana, Jessica, Kina, and Summer don’t have billionaires or corporate PAC money behind them. Their people-powered campaigns are fueled by the same grassroots movement that unseated corporate Democrats and elected Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Jamaal Bowman, and Cori Bush.

The final FEC deadline of the year for our full slate is coming up at the end of the month, and we’re behind on the $200k we need to raise for our JD primary candidates by the end of the quarter.

Odessa, Rana, Jessica, Kina, and Summer are running in districts that are currently represented by incumbents who have failed to fight for the people that elected them. They’ve chosen instead to represent the interests of Wall Street, real estate developers, pharmaceutical companies, and other big corporations.

Just like AOC, Ilhan, Cori, and other Justice Democrats — our JD slate is ready to take on the tough fights to stand for working people in Congress. But challenging opponents with deep pockets and big campaign war chests will be no easy task.

We need to do our part to help Odessa, Rana, Jessica, Kina, and Summer put up big fundraising numbers and fuel their campaigns going into the 2022 primaries.

ICYMI: Summer Lee is running for Congress

 

We can’t let today go by without providing you with an update on Summer Lee’s campaign launch. The grassroots movement backing Summer has shown up today, but we’re still short of the $50,000 we need to raise within the first 24 hours of Summer announcing her campaign.

These first few days are critical. As a progressive primary challenger, Summer needs to prove to the Democratic establishment that she has the resources to run a competitive campaign. Most Congressional candidates are expected to raise thousands of dollars in the first weeks just from friends and family, but Summer isn’t backed by the ultrawealthy, which is why she is counting on grassroots donors to step up and give what they can.

We are so excited for all of the support for Summer Lee’s campaign for Congress, but we are still $11,539 short of our goal to raise $50,000 by the end of today. Will you chip in and become a founding donor to Summer’s campaign?

Summer Lee is running for Congress to really represent the people of Southwestern Pennsylvania and to fight for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, an end to student debt, overdue solutions to fix the unjust criminal legal system, and much more.

The past few weeks, we’ve seen the power of progressive house members, unapologetically standing for the people’s interests.
