212,000 calls and counting

Sunrise Movement Logo

Last night, our volunteers reached 212,000 calls made in support of Jessica Cisneros!

Sunrise volunteers calling for Jessica Cisneros

Helping Jessica win her primary is too important and the stakes are too high for us to not do everything we can in order to win. In 2020, Jessica lost to Corrupt Henry Cuellar by only ~2,000 votes, which means every vote counts.

We just added even more shifts - which means even more chances to get on the phones and motivate Texas voters to turn out for Jessica. But we need your help in order to fund these efforts.

Can you spare $10 — or whatever you can — to our Texas Primary GOTV fund to help our volunteers contact Texas voters? We need to call as many voters as possible to win!

This is our opportunity to elect a community organizer. To uplift one of our own.

Someone who in a storm, in a crisis, would help distribute food and raise money for hotels, not someone who profits off of our pain.

Jessica Cisneros is a Green New Deal for Texas, and we need to finish the work we started in 2020 by calling as many voters as possible before early voting starts on February 14.

Will you donate $10 to the Texas Primary GOTV Fund and support our efforts to make calls for Jessica Cisneros before early voting starts? Your help could make the difference in getting a voter to turn in their ballot.

Let's do this y'all!

In solidarity,

Ezra

Rep. Cuellar? Corrupt?

Sunrise Movement Logo

Earlier this week, the FBI raided the house of Representative Henry Cuellar aka ‘Big Oil’s Favorite Democrat’ aka the incumbent our endorsee Jessica Cisneros is challenging.

This latest act of corruption is no surprise to us. But it gives us another reason for us to elect Jessica Cisneros and give TX-28 the representation it deserves.

At the same moment Rep. Cuellar's house was being searched by the FBI, Sunrise Movement volunteers were making thousands of calls to TX-28 voters for Jessica Cisneros because we believe it’s time for her leadership. But with just weeks until voting starts, we need your help.

Can you contribute $10 or any amount toward our Texas Primary GOTV Fund to help us replace Henry Cuellar and send Jessica to Congress?

It doesn't take an FBI raid to find out that Rep Cuellar is corrupt...All it takes is a Google Search.

From granting extensive favors to border security lobbyists, to an ‘A’ rating from the NRA, to being ‘Big Oil’s Favorite Democrat’, Henry Cuellar has made it clear he’s corrupt.

Unlike Cuellar, Jessica Cisneros understands the crises we face, and she is ready to take power from corporate Democrats like Cuellar and give it back to her community. But we need to make sure we reach as many voters as possible.

In early 2020, Texas progressive champ Jessica Cisneros nearly defeated Henry Cuellar, Congress' most conservative "Democrat." Her path to victory has never been clearer, but we can’t stop our work to elect her now.

With only weeks until the start of early voting in TX-28, we need to give all that we can to make sure TX-28 finally elects Jessica Cisneros. We’ve already made 115,000 calls, and you can get us even further.

In solidarity,

Paris, Sunrise

No one benefits from us giving in except for the moderates and their billionaire donors.

Sunrise Movement Logo

The stage was set for a vote in the House today on the jobs & climate package we’ve been fighting so hard for — AKA the Build Back Better Act.

But so-called moderate Democrats pumped the brakes again — just like they always do for their corporate donors. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi backed them up, calling for a full vote on BIF — AKA the Exxon Plan — along with a procedural vote to simply begin debate on the Build Back Better Act. 🙄

It’s a sad day when Democratic leadership tries to ram through a bill written by a bunch of corporations but is fine with waiting to pass a bill that would actually help workers, young people, and families. But the Build Back Better Act wouldn’t even be on the table still if it weren’t for progressives continuing to hold the line — so we have to keep our eyes on the prize and stay focused.

No one benefits from us giving in except for the moderates and their billionaire donors.

How many times do we have to say it? Our lives are not a game for politicians to play. We have a once-in-a-generation chance to act boldly on climate — and we’re DONE waiting.

No matter what happens in the coming days, weeks, or months, we’re not going anywhere.

In solidarity,

Ellen, Sunrise

Good news - ELECTION WINS

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress

In politics, it’s easy to get discouraged. Losing the Governor's race in Virginia on Tuesday was a huge bummer. But there were some big wins over the last two days that many thought weren’t possible and remind us why organizing matters:

Civilian Climate Corps makes it into the Build Back Better Act

Yesterday, we successfully won the inclusion and the establishment of the US Civilian Climate Corps in the Build Back Better Act. This program is set to create over 300,000 public service jobs for people of all ages to help mitigate climate change and environmental injustices.

Alexandria first outlined a vision for this plan in 2019 as part of the Green New Deal framework.1 While many said it was impossible, we organized with our partners from the Sunrise Movement and others to make this a reality.

Bailout for Taxi Drivers

Two years ago, we began working with the New York Taxi Workers Alliance to fight for our immigrant taxi workers who were trapped and targeted in a predatory medallion lending scheme by big lenders.

When we first rolled out this plan to relieve unfair debt and astronomical loan payments, we were told that it was naive, too expensive, and unreasonable. But yesterday, we won.2

This bailout will rescue thousands of cab drivers who have been crushed under paralyzing debt after years of exploitative practices in the industry.

Alexandria was one of the first politicians to come out and support this plan in 2019.

Historic election wins

On the election front, we also have some good news. Tiffany Cabán – a public defender who advocates for the shutdown of Rikers jail – was elected to the New York City Council. Shahana Hanif just became the first-ever Muslim woman elected to the New York City Council in history.

Michelle Wu, a progressive, became the first woman and person of color to be elected as Mayor of Boston. Richie Floyd made history as the first openly socialist candidate to win a city council race in Florida since the 1930's.

The lessons from all of these victories (and our losses) is that we need to build our movement from the bottom up. Mass mobilization – both during and outside elections – is crucial to our progress.

The only way we were able to win relief for taxi drivers was because of an outside non-electoral mass movement of organized workers.

When we pair organized mass movements with elected leaders who are willing to enact the people's will, we can accelerate the momentum needed to make change.

As a supporter of our campaign, you’ve had a hand in making all of these victories possible. Thank you. If you’re in a place to give $15 again, you can do so here. It would go a long way in powering our organizing for the next batch of wins.

When we organize people, the people win.
