Here’s my story...

When I was a child, my mother was injured and lost her job, and then we lost our home. With nowhere to go, a friend of ours let us live in a tent in their backyard for months.

Many of my classmates never knew that after school, I didn’t have a home to go to — and this experience shaped my life in ways that are hard to talk about, but it is something I carry with me everywhere I go.

After a long week of debates over extending the eviction moratorium, I am tired. Tired because this issue still exists, tired of seeing that families who have been hit the hardest are still trying to stay afloat and keep a roof over their heads, tired of children carrying the burden of experiencing homelessness for the rest of their lives.

This is a human rights emergency that is impacting millions of families across the country. These are families and children that will always carry this experience with them and it is time for a permanent solution.

Every family deserves the peace of mind of having a roof over their head, and it’s up to us to ensure that we address our housing insecurity and develop a permanent fix.

Thank you for doing the right thing and helping us end the housing crisis.
