This was no ordinary Trump fundraiser. This was a direct cash grab — arranged by Trump’s business buddies to personally enrich his family. The attendees? The top 220 buyers of the $Trump cryptocurrency, many of them foreign nationals who paid over a million dollars per ticket.
This is the new frontier of political corruption in America: a scammy and dangerous shift toward untraceable funds flooding our politics. And it’s not just Republicans on the take.
On Monday, 16 Senate Democrats joined Republicans to vote for the so-called “GENIUS Act,’ a crypto deregulation bill that would open the floodgates to foreign cash and anonymous campaign donations. It’s a dream come true for billionaires, scammers, and authoritarians everywhere.

It was a warning sign of the threat posed by this crypto deregulation bill: If we don’t act, the ultra-wealthy will have an entirely new, nearly untraceable mechanism to rig the system to line their pockets — and Trump's crypto coronation came less than 24 hours after Republicans sold out Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for his rich donors.
Senator Merkley stood with Our Revolution activists on the streets outside Trump’s golf course because he recognizes the stakes: democracy itself is threatened when billionaires and foreign entities gain unfettered channels to secretly influence elections.
