Voter suppression by another name

 

We’ve seen a disturbing trend of voter suppression going on across the country in recent years, culminating with Donald Trump’s “Big Lie,” his refusal to support a peaceful transfer of power, and the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol. Now, we’re seeing it play out in California, where right-wing billionaires are attempting to subvert the will of the voters by pursuing recalls against Governor Newsom, myself, and others. Let's be clear: The recall effort is voter suppression by another name. They know they can’t win an election on their own merits, so they’re trying to remove me from office and stop our reform movement in its tracks. The billionaires behind the recall effort are spending lavishly -- they’ve already spent more than $1.4 million and have promised to spend $5 million to recall us. I don’t have a rolodex full of billionaire benefactors lining up to write blank checks and fund our efforts.
