Our veteran community deeply understands the implications of the escalating situation at the Ukrainian border. Despite the Russian forces building up at the Ukrainian border, President Biden and our international allies are considering diplomatic options to de-escalate the situation.
The veterans of Common Defense are relieved to see a steady hand holding the reins in the White House because we know better than most that war is hell and must be prevented at all costs. The U.S. Military spent 20 long years quagmired in Afghanistan, 10 years in the Vietnam War a generation earlier. Ending one Forever War just to begin another will squander decades of sacrifice and steal from our future.
We can't have any more Forever Wars. The cost is too high for the American people of today and tomorrow.
Common Defense urges the Biden administration to continue working towards peace, diplomacy and the promotion of military restraint. It's a tall order, but we're signing this petition asking President Biden to avoid another Forever War. Will you sign your name too?War comes with an unfathomable cost. Time we'll never get back, resources we need at home being shipped abroad, human lives taken or irreparably affected. Of course, the American people aren't the only ones who will be affected. War in Ukraine could result in civilian casualties ranging from 25,000 to 50,000, according to estimates, so we cannot be apathetic about the impact.
We know that if the Biden administration does not prioritize peace above all else, we could potentially commit to one of the most destructive military engagements of our generation.
Common Defense — alongside thousands of civilian activists and military family members here and abroad — has organized for years to end America's Forever Wars. Today we continue that work by doing all we can to promote diplomacy and asking our President to avoid taking military action at all costs.
If you're with us, and you don't want to see the U.S. join another Forever War, sign our petition to the White House urging President Biden to make military action our LAST option.Jose Vasquez
