FWD: The GOP-endorsed recall is violating campaign laws

Did you see the email we sent you yesterday?

new report shows the GOP-backed recall working to overturn the will of the voters and stop our criminal justice reform movement in its tracks has violated campaign laws.

I take great care to follow campaign rules and ethics. By brazenly breaking the rules and misrepresenting who they are and where their money comes from, the recall effort is showing they have no respect for elections or voters. The recall committee is trying to pretend to be a home-grown Democratic movement, but they’re actually paid shills for the GOP. And voters deserve to know who is behind this effort.

We are doing everything we can to expose the recall for what it is, but we have a massive fundraising disadvantage, and I need your help. Can I count on you to make a contribution of whatever amount is meaningful to you to help us defeat the recall and keep our movement on track?

Hi, it’s Honey Mahogany, chair of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee, writing to you on behalf of Chesa Boudin, the progressive prosecutor fighting to reform our criminal justice system.

new report shows the committee working to overturn the will of the voters and throw Chesa out of office has violated campaign laws by misrepresenting its paid spokesperson as an independent critic.

Put simply, the recall committee is trying to pretend to be a home-grown Democratic movement, but they’re actually paid shills for the GOP.

As the chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party, I stand with Chesa. And I want to make clear that you should not be fooled by illegal, GOP-funded ads trying to stop our criminal justice reform movement in its tracks.

The recall committee is trying to pretend it isn’t funded by the GOP, but we know the truth. And voters deserve to know who is behind this effort.

Chesa’s campaign is fighting tooth and nail to expose the Republican recall for what it is, but they have a massive fundraising advantage, and we need your help. Can we count on you to donate $20 or more to help us defeat the recall and keep our movement on track?

By design, California has very strong rules for transparency and campaign advertising.

Chesa’s team takes great care to follow these rules to the letter. By brazenly breaking the rules and misrepresenting who they are and where their money comes from, they’re showing they have little respect for fair elections or for the votes.

It's time the recall effort was held accountable for their actions.

Thanks for helping us fight back,

Honey Mahogany
Chair, San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee

Chesa Boudin was elected District Attorney of San Francisco in 2019 to reform our criminal justice system. Now, right-wingers  want to reverse our progress and return our city to a time when innocent people were locked away and police acted with impunity.

Please chip in today to keep up the fight to reform San Francisco's criminal justice system.
