In anticipation of tomorrow’s Thanksgiving holiday, we partnered with local organizations in The Bronx and Queens to distribute food and educate our community about food insecurity.
With the support from our grassroots movement, we’ve raised $33,589.64 for three community organizations working to put food on the tables of low-income families and neighbors in our community.
In addition, we partnered with local leaders and groups to put together a Food Justice Panel and Turkey Giveaway in The Bronx this past weekend to ensure our neighbors are able to celebrate the holiday and reserve a turkey for their families.
Over 1,000 Bronx residents attended the event and we distributed 650 turkeys to families. Take a look:
While we fight for systemic change in Washington to address inequality, poverty, and food insecurity with policies like the Child Tax Credit, we know that at its core, politics is about helping people in tangible ways, not just through policy.
Many campaigns only think about their next re-election. But Alexandria believes that we have a responsibility to think creatively about what we can do in partnership with others in our community to meet the needs of our constituents right now. Sometimes, that looks like a turkey – other times it’s getting connected with a volunteer tutor to help a student with their homework.
But none of this would be possible without the movement of people (that’s you, reading this email) who power this work. We’re so grateful to all of you who are helping live the values of this campaign every day. Together, our volunteers and donors have made 200,000 community check-in calls, delivered 80,000 meals, distributed 100,000 masks, and recruited more than 11,000 tutors for students in remote learning during the pandemic. Thank you.
This holiday season, we hope you take a moment to appreciate your community and envision the ways you want to contribute to building a better world.
We’re so thankful for your ongoing support of our grassroots efforts, and wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving holiday.
