Seven years ago, 17-year-old Laquan McDonald was fatally shot by Chicago police officers. As mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel tried to cover up his wrongful death, delaying justice and stopping Laquan’s family from getting closure and healing.
Today, on the anniversary of Laquan’s murder, Rahm Emanuel is sitting before the Senate Foreign Relations committee for nomination as Biden’s nominee for ambassador to Japan.
Illinois’ 7th is a congressional district plagued by inequality. It’s home to giant tech companies, big real estate developments, and a wealthy financial district championed by Rahm Emmanuel. But travel just a couple miles away, and the community struggles with unemployment, unsafe infrastructure, and unequal public schools — and life expectancy drops by 30 years.
Past experiences and actions matter. Which is why Rahm Emanuel is unequivocally unfit to serve as ambassador to Japan — period. And why we need the people’s voice in government.
Kina’s experiences as an organizer and activist, on the front lines of the protests against Rahm Emanuel, tackling inequity, and fighting for justice and accountability make her the best candidate in the IL-07 primary. But in order to beat the corrupt political system that protected Rahm Emanuel, and has maintained the status quo, she needs our help. Will you split a contribution between Kina Collins and Justice Democrats? Your support will help us build the campaign needed to get Kina elected.
In solidarity,
