The House of Representatives plans to vote on federal abortion legislation today, in hopes of codifying Roe v. Wade and protecting abortion-seekers around the nation against oppressive state legislatures. It’s a sweeping women’s health bill that some say is unlikely to pass, which is why we need all hands on deck affirming its necessity and calling for immediate passage.
Support for Roe v. Wade is both strong and bipartisan, with 60-70% of Americans in favor. And more importantly, regardless of polling, no similar issue regarding men’s health is subject to the whims of popular vote. This legislation is imperative, and the public knows it.

With a 6-3 right-wing supermajority in the Supreme Court, a woman’s right to choose is in serious jeopardy. The onslaught of proposed anti-abortion laws at the state level and recent Supreme Court decisions set a perilous stage for the fight for women’s health in America, further emboldening anti-abortion groups. It also puts women and health professionals at risk of physical or professional retaliation — while abortion is still ostensibly legal in all 50 states.
It’s absolutely vital that Congress enact clear federal abortion protections as soon as possible, and stop a minority of Republicans — mostly men — from rolling back women’s health half a century. Our legislators have a responsibility to deliver.
