Today’s Action: Tell President Biden to take FULL legal action against governors attempting to block schools' mask mandates
Refusing to mandate masks in the upcoming school year is not just a mistake, it’s criminal. But some Republican governors have gone so far as to block all mask mandates in their states.
The Department of Education began investigating five states over their mask mandate bans. The investigation will determine "whether the prohibitions are restricting access for students who are protected under federal law from discrimination based on their disabilities, and are entitled to a free appropriate public education."
The investigations still don’t include critical states like Florida or Texas-- because their governor’s efforts are being blocked. Governors like Desantis from FL, however, are continuing to retaliate in other ways, like pulling funding from schools protecting their students from COVID-19 (despite the decision of the court.) Other unchecked Governors remain just as persistent to gamble with their young constituents’ access to a healthy and full life.
Write President Biden and tell him to take the full scope of legal action against states with mask mandate bans! This is a clear threat to public safety, and the government has the right — and obligation — to do what’s right. Send him this petition with almost 27,000 signatures in support of school districts defying mask mandate bans!
With hospitals already filling up across the country — and many seeing a surge in younger patients — this issue needs to be addressed immediately. Just this week, a Texas school had to close after two teachers died from COVID-19 within the first week back in the classroom.
Schools should not have to use loopholes like including masks in their normal dress code just to protect their students and staff from a deadly virus. Until every child is able to be vaccinated, we have a duty to mask up and keep them safe.
Write President Biden and demand the Dept. of Education conduct thorough investigations in states with criminal mask mandate bans! Republican governors are endangering public safety, and the president has a responsibility to fight back!
