Today’s Action: Tell President Biden to take legal action against governors blocking schools' mask mandates
Refusing to mandate masks in the upcoming school year is not just a mistake, it’s criminal. Students and faculty will be at risk for contracting and spreading COVID-19 to their loved ones, and some will experience long term symptoms that permanently alter their cognitive and physical abilities. But some GOP governors have gone so far as to not allow any place in their state to require masks, including Florida’s Ron DeSantis, who has begun sanctioning school districts for enacting simple, life-saving measures.
Anti-mask governors are gambling with young people’s access to a healthy and full life. Kids under 12 are not even eligible to be vaccinated yet, and without proper protections, our school systems run the risk of becoming COVID hotspots (some already are).
Sanctions or no sanctions — school districts have every right to take a stand to protect the kids they serve.
Write President Biden and tell him to take legal action against states with mask mandate bans! This is clear threat to public safety, and the government has the right — and obligation — to do what’s right. Send him this petition with almost 27,000 signatures in support of school districts defying mask mandate bans!
The Education Department has rightly threatened to use its civil rights arm to combat these reckless mandate bans. With hospitals already filling up across the country — and many seeing a surge in younger patients — this issue needs to be addressed immediately.
Schools should not have to use loopholes like including masks in their normal dress code just to protect their students and staff from a deadly virus. Until every child is able to be vaccinated, we have a duty to mask up and keep them safe.
Write President Biden and demand the Dept. of Education investigate states with criminal mask mandate bans! Republican governors are endangering public safety, and the president has a responsibility to fight back!
