Today's Action: Pass the For the People Act now!

With the first warrant signed for a Texas Democrat who fled the state and Texas Governor Abbott promising a swift second call to another special session, we are in the last moments of crunch time for the passage of voter rights laws.

With GOP leaders across the nation passing heinous state-level voter suppression laws, we need the For The People Act now more than ever to protect our fundamental right to free and fair elections. Legislators have been working nonstop in DC and beyond to fight for their most marginalized constituents’ right to vote, but GOP senators have stood by their promises to block the legislation with their almighty filibuster — seeing the right to vote as no more than a Democratic agenda item.

Call (202-224-3121) or email your senators and tell them that the passage of federal voting protections is our last line of defense against GOP voter suppression laws!

The For The People Act is an overhaul of election accessibility, transparency, and security. It creates a national voter registration program, makes Election Day a national holiday, and puts an end to gerrymandering and voter roll purges. It also implements campaign finance reform, limits foreign lobbying, and requires super PACs to disclose donors. It even includes support for a constitutional amendment to repeal Citizens United. Unless these measures are passed soon, our 2022 midterm elections will see millions of would-be voters suppressed — mostly people of color and the poor.

Our senators must understand the urgency of the situation. Every one of our elected representatives must be fighting for the immediate passage of major federal voter protection laws.

Call (202-224-3121) or email your senators and demand that they pass sweeping federal voter protection efforts through the For The People Act now, and remind them our democracy depends on it!

PS — Please don't forget to sign the petition calling for a vaccine mandate at the Capitol, and be sure to follow OD Action on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
