Dear Friend,
The Northern Alliance in fall of 2001 defeated the Taliban with US air support, because they had esprit de corps and were fighting for what they believed in. The Afghanistan National Army seems to be unwilling to fight in the same way, presumably because they don’t ultimately want to risk their lives for their government. It is a sad, tragic development, and many urban people, women, and minorities will suffer. But once a Ponzi schemer has already stolen all the money, it is not possible to keep up the pretense of normality forever.

US Empire’s Afghan Ponzi Scheme Comes to Ignoble End
by Juan Cole

Another 4,000 US troops are being sent to Kuwait for a possible rapid deployment to Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Britain is dispatching 600 of its own soldiers.

by Dr Ramzy Baroud
Rome is scorching hot. This beautiful city is becoming unbearable for other reasons, too. Many parts of Italy are literally on fire. Since June 15, firefighters have reportedly responded to 37,000 fire-related emergencies, 1,500 of them on July 18 alone
Obstacles to Emancipatory Transformations: The Imperial Mode of Living
by Ulrich Brand and Markus Wissen
The concept of the ‘imperial mode of living’ aims to render visible the norms of production, distribution and consumption built into the political, economic and cultural structures of everyday life for the populations of the global North and increasingly in the ‘emerging economies’ of
the global South. It does not only refer to material practices but also, and especially, to the structural conditions and guiding social principles and discourses that make these practices possible. To put it pointedly: the standards of a ‘good’ and ‘proper’ life are part of comprehensive societal relations, material and social infrastructures and an international order that is shaped by imperialist domination.
India Will Progress Best by Remaining True to Ideals of Freedom Movement
by Bharat Dogra
India achieved independence in exceptionally difficult circumstances, but India also inherited a very rich legacy of the freedom movement to guide its path of progress after independence. It was a legacy much more valuable than any great treasure of gold or diamonds. It was a legacy obtained from the great struggles and sacrifices of several million freedom fighters
who not only fought valiantly from streets and fields but also sought to create a vision of the path of progress of India should adopt after independence from foreign rule.
On The Question Of Political Independence –Part 1
by DV Rao
As India celebrates the Amrut Mahotsav (75 years) of its independence, the question still remains why India still lags behind, why imperialists still have a say in running the country.

Dalit Landless Farmers Rise Up in Punjab
by Harsh Thakor
Arguably the most qualitative protest of the dalit landless labourers challenging casteist oppression in the entire nation took place near the chief minister’s palatial house at Moti Mahal in Patiala, yesterday. Around 2000 dalit agricultural labourers led by the Zameen Prapti Sangharsh Commitee besieged Caspian Amrinder Singh’s residential house. The intensity of the demonstrators was immense.
Changing stands of RSS: A Riddle
by Nagesh Chaudhari
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat in a book release programme said that the DNA of Muslims and Hindus are one. The author of the book, is Dr. Khwaja Iftikar Ahmad titled ‘The Meeting of Minds :A bridging Initiative’ is a Muslim and he is part of the RSS created organisation, ‘Muslim Rashtriya Manch. ( Muslim National Front). In a way it was RSS function. Therefore, much need not to be read
from its own function, but as the much fuss has been made by the media and there is lot of praising by many of this changed stance of the RSS, it is necessary to fathom the real intent of the RSS.
