Who’s going to tell Kevin McCarthy?

 

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy ordered his caucus to vote against a January 6 committee into the Capitol insurrection. On that same day, he demanded the House Intelligence Committee investigate Fox News host Tucker Carlson's baseless claims that the NSA was spying on him.   McCarthy has stood, unapologetically, by AZ Rep. Paul Gosar as he openly fundraised with neo-Nazis and Holocaust deniers -- yet he threatened to strip any Republicans who accept an appointment to the January 6 committee of their committee assignments.   MSNBC's Charlie Sykes said it best: “In McCarthy's GOP, the attack on democracy is memory-holed, while a Fox News conspiracy theory is hyped. Bigots are tolerated, while truth-tellers are purged and bullied.”   Who's going to tell McCarthy that the American people are paying attention and his actions have consequences? Only we can.   Right now, McCarthy is only 5 seats away from taking control of the chamber, and according to FiveThirtyEight, he's on track to get his wish.   We need to turn the tide, but Democratic giving has plummeted now that Biden is in the White House. On January 6, 139 House Republicans voted to overturn a free and fair election. Those same Republicans are now on track to control the House for the remainder of Biden's presidency -- and they might be the same ones in power when Congress votes to certify the 2024 presidential election.   Last cycle, you helped us defend vulnerable House Democrats in tough races, and our efforts paid off.
