Trump’s back to inciting violence just six months after the insurrection

 

Donald Trump is out of office. But he's back on the rally circuit and encouraging supporters to overthrow democracy. Just weeks ago, he told a crowd in Ohio that he'd “never stop fighting for the true results of this election." And in Florida, he suggested that the Capitol Police officer who shot an insurrectionist on January 6 should be “strung up and hung."   We've already seen what Trump's radicalizing rhetoric can wreak. His supporters are still celebrating every word he says.   We can't ignore all the violent, anti-democracy language Trump keeps spouting. Marjorie Taylor Greene and other Trump sycophants still have their platforms and their audiences, and they haven't changed their tune one bit since the insurrection.   The rally audiences applauding Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene don't care who the real president is. Meanwhile, Trump is building them up with delusions of guerilla warfare and vigilante justice. At one of Trump's recent rallies, a supporter announced, "We're going to be in a civil war, because the militia will be taking over."   And every day, more and more Republicans are changing their minds, telling pollsters that the January 6 attack was justified. The radical right is growing, and it's more and more becoming the mainstream GOP.   If we pretend January 6 never happened, it'll happen again -- and next time, it might cost even more lives and damage.   Trump doesn't have the bully pulpit anymore. He doesn't even have a Twitter. What he does have is a crew of white nationalist radicals representing him in the halls of power -- people like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, and Lauren Boebert.   That's why we at Progressive Majority are focused on getting Trump's allies out of office and putting progressives in. Donald Trump, and the conspiracy theories he obsessively repeats only have power as long as other Republicans embrace them.   So, before Trump and his cronies can radicalize their followers and cause a repeat of January 6, help us take them down. Unlike Trump, we don't believe in mob justice. We believe in the power of a group of people giving what they can.
