Today’s Action: Include real climate measures in the budget reconciliation bill!
Wildfires are causing widespread evacuations in California and in Oregon, flash flooding is devastating communities abroad and here at home, extreme drought and unyielding heat waves are threatening our infrastructure… Life as we know it is actively being upended by increasing climate disasters, and yet, our politicians have been unable or unwilling to come to agreement on a meaningful plan of action. In fact, all the climate proposals put forward so far have been blocked by the GOP-backed filibuster.
We do not have time to wait for negotiations; we need sweeping investments in climate initiatives now in order to protect our planet. Without comprehensive action on global warming, climate disasters will worsen and negatively impact the lives of working-class people.
Senate Democrats’ $3.5 trillion budget plan includes bold and necessary climate action — but if it’s anything like the rest of Biden’s agenda items, Republicans will work to slash every proposed investment.
Call (202-224-3121) or email your representatives and demand they fight to keep significant climate measures in the budget reconciliation bill and pass it immediately!
This issue transcends party lines. Our legislators must come together to ensure the United States is doing everything in its power to reverse the damage done to our planet by years of unchecked natural resource exploitation.
It is not the wealthy that will suffer from these devastations; that burden will fall on the backs of working-class families and marginalized communities. When there is nowhere left to accommodate the majority of the population, the ultra-rich will retreat to luxury bunkers that have been in the works for years. The rest of us won’t be so lucky.
