TODAY’S ACTION: Stop Line 3!

The new Line 3 project is a rerouted expansion of an existing pipeline carrying crude oil built with defective steel in 1961. The current pipeline already suffers from ruptures and spills, functioning only at a whopping half pressure. At a 7.5 million dollar price tag, it would be one of the largest crude oil pipelines in the world. Which means that 915,000 barrels of tar sands crude, some of the Earth’s dirtiest oil, would traverse delicate wetlands, rice beds, and lakes daily. Violating Ojibwe treaty territory, Line 3 would put First Nation communities and our environment at risk.

Just look at what happened this week alone -- a pipeline rupture set the Gulf of Mexico on fire, a mud volcano ruptured in the Caspian Sea barely missing offshore oil and gas fields... These types of accidents are hardly hypothetical.

In a time where our climate’s future feels so uncertain, the Line 3 pipeline is more than just a mistake -- it’s a gamble with some of our most sensitive ecosystems and marginalized communities. Write President Biden and tell him to make good on his climate campaign promises and stop construction on Line 3 now!

While President Biden could revoke the federal permits issued by the Trump administration that the pipeline depends on, he has yet to do so. We need our elected leaders to start aggressively tackling the issues of climate change. Just the last few weeks of drought, flooding, and heatwaves illustrate the need for meaningful action.

We are running out of time.

The implementation of Line 3 only threatens to make that time shorter.

Write President Biden and tell him not to choose oil over our planet and our First Nation communities. Demand he revoke federal construction permits for Line 3 now!

PS — Please don't forget to sign the petition telling the Olympics to stop targeting Black women and let them compete, and be sure to follow OD Action on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
