What is my motivation for more than 5 years of posts, most with a political bent towards "Rule of Law-Due Process"? Many could recite the lines by heart. Well, this is part of it.
Countless Vietnam-era War college year dinners my father intoned: "That it NOT happen here!" And it is, in our own, unique way, happening here. It didn't start in Germany with smoke rising up the stacks. Rather it began when "All decent people" couldn't or wouldn't say 'No!' to clear manifestations of Evil preying upon our lesser, fear-based human impulses.
The following delves more deeply into the basis of this post. A troll entered a progressive/liberal group's Facebook page to spread their unique brand of disinformation. This time it concerned LBJ's motivations for twisting arms to get Civil Rights legislation passed in 1964-65. It would be easy enough to ignore the likes of this xxxxxxxx character. I don't know what his problem is, his background, his education or exposure at home or why he's found an outlet pandering his puss.
Facts surrounding tRump's sleazy background and character, caging children under "Zero Tolerance", Covid-19 and the "Big Lie" about a stolen election are routinely brushed aside. Particularly galling is their "eyes wide-open lying" notwithstanding a historical record of film, video, audio recording and a slew of witnesses enough to convict any criminal defendant of any crime is a similarity to something more nefarious, costing millions of lives.
Wasn't it more than enough when they denied; to the point of minimizing the horrors of slavery, as not much different than "3 hots and a cots" making a slave's lives easier? For decades, Neo-Nazis,, KKKers, White Supremacists in post-WWII Germany and in the United States deny the Holocaust happened. That's notwithstanding all the newsreels, all the victims, all the survivors with tattoos of prison numbers burned into their flesh.
None of it can stand unchallenged, although the social media exchanges have become predictable and frustrating when engaging with that category of Neanderthal mentality. A tRumper or Covid-denier assert something quite preposterous. We return with documented facts and they criticize "Google" or CNN or the media source, but never present with anything remotely related to a verifiable fact.
Providing a historical, fact-based perspective -- particularly to those younger than us Boomers is important in this contest for the future. It gives others; perhaps less skilled in writing or legal/political matters, a means of solidifying their thoughts with cogent points enough to feel confident in their assertions.
And every so often a bigot, a hater, a racist, a neo-Nazi White supremacist sees the light, takes a good hard look and does a 180 turn. Yes, hope springs eternal. The important thing to hold onto is that "We can't give up on anybody". This is one example, https://is.gd/i0Pi3I
